- Manipur students continue to oppose Ashab Uddin's appointment
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, March 29:
Manipur chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh has drawn heavy flak from the Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (Desam) for not only appointing Ashab Uddin as parliamentary secretary but also for defending his action.
The students' association today announced that it would launch a movement to demand constitutional safeguards for the indigenous people of Manipur.
The move follows the appointment of Ashab Uddin as a parliamentary secretary by Biren Singh. Ashab Uddin was elected from Jiribam Assembly constituency, neighbouring Cachar district of Assam.
