Position: Project Coordinator
Posting: AIPP Regional Secretariat in Chiang Mai
Duration: 2 years, including 6 months probation
Report to: Environment Programme Coordinator, Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General
AIPP is looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and self-motivated indigenous person preferably from South East Asia for the position of ‘Project Coordinator’ to implement the project: “Strengthening the participation of indigenous peoples in sustainable resource management - particularly the roles and contributions of indigenous women”.
The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) is a regional organization of indigenous peoples’ movements in Asia. AIPP is committed to promoting and defending indigenous peoples’ rights and human rights. AIPP strengthens solidarity and cooperation among indigenous organizations and communities in Asia and participates in global indigenous movements.
AIPP has five strategic programmes to raise awareness and build capacities for advocacy and policy influence about indigenous peoples’ rights and recognition in Asia. The Environment Programme is one of these five. It focuses on building indigenous peoples’ capacities for research, development and advocacy work. Core issues are climate change adaptation and mitigation, biodiversity and natural resources management and indigenous knowledge. The programme is for indigenous peoples and their networks at national, regional and international levels.
The coordinator will be based in Chiang Mai, Thailand and she/he will be responsible for following duties and tasks:
Coordinating with partners for collecting baseline data and implementing the project, including participatory project monitoring and evaluation.
Providing regular technical assistance and capacity building activities for project partners, including field visits.
Preparing monthly work plans and timely reports for donors and the AIPP secretariat.
Communicating between project partners and the AIPP secretariat, including distributing training manuals and briefing papers, as well as collecting feedback from indigenous leaders and the secretariat.
Coordinating and facilitating with governments in selected countries for advocacy and lobbying about indigenous peoples’ issues and concerns.
Facilitating networking, collaboration and alliance building with indigenous peoples’ organizations and related organizations from local to international levels.
Facilitating effective participation of indigenous peoples, particularly women, in national mechanisms and processes about climate change, resource management and biodiversity conservation.
Facilitating meetings, exchanges and training sessions, including documenting research and case studies.
The applicant must be an INDIGENOUS PERSON. Additionally, the following qualifications are desired:
In-depth knowledge and understanding of forest rights and indigenous peoples’ natural resource management.
General knowledge and familiarity with indigenous peoples’ issues, rights and concerns including indigenous women’s issues.
At least 2 years of work experience at the regional level and 3 years of work experience at the national level.
Excellent skills in project coordination, implementation, monitoring and report/proposal writing.
Experience in organizing and coordinating training sessions, workshops, seminars and exposure/exchange visits.
Experience in working with indigenous peoples in grassroots organizations.
Ability to communicate in written and verbal English.
Proficiency using computers, including word, spreadsheet and presentation applications. Additional computer skills are desirable.
Willingness to travel to partner organizations for field visits.
Self-motivation, creativity and energy.
Remuneration and benefits for the coordinator are:
Minimum salary of Baht 25,000 per month. (approximately 800.00 USD)
Housing and personal communication allowance.
Health Insurance.
Travel fare for an annual home visit.
Two weeks paid holiday and 2 weeks year-end holiday.
