PROF JODHA CHANDRA SANASAM Akademi Award: Literature (Creative Work)
A doctor by profession, Prof. Jodha Chandra Sanasam, born in 1944 at Thangmeiband Khomdram Shellungba Leikai, Imphal, is a noted Manipuri poet, novelist, short story writer, translator, columnist and lyricist.
Perhaps more popular as a writer than an ENT specialist, he started writing lyrical poetries from his schooldays. His passion for writing refused to wither away even after he became a medical student.
His first publication Thabal gee Kundo Pareng, a collection of short stories came out in 1980. It was soon followed by his first novel Akanba Shaphoogi Irei in 1981. Since then he has published thirteen more literary works including poetries, short stories and novels in both Manipuri and English including translations.
Prof. Sanasam's literary works, including his novel Mathou Kanba DNA, bear ample testimony for his strong inclination for romanticism, narrative skills, mastery over language and often reflect his higher philosophical ideas.
He has been associated with several literary organisations including Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Imphal, Writers' Forum, Imphal and Naharol Sahitya Premee Samiti, Imphal.
At present he is associated with Patriotic Writers' Forum as its president. He is also a recipient of several honours and awards including Sahitya Akademi Award.
For his rich contribution to Manipuri literature and for his novel Mathou Kanba DNA, Prof. Jodha Chandra Sanansam is conferred with Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
