Last Date : 17th July 2012
The Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule Women’s Studies Centre, established in 1987 in University of Pune, is one of the foremost centres in the discipline of Women’s Studies in the country. The very name of the centre invokes the ideals set out by Savitribai Phule, the first woman teacher of modern India and guides it to deal consciously with interlocking issues of gender, caste, class, region in all its activities.
The Women’s Studies Centre at the University of Pune has been successfully running postgraduate masters, credit, diploma and certificate courses in Women’s Studies as well as an undergraduate certificate course in Women and Development.
The MA course in Gender, Culture and Development Studies 2012 offered by the Centre is a one of a kind course. It provides post-graduate training in the new interdisciplinary area of Gender, Culture and Development Studies. It is a regular full-time postgraduate degree course spread over two years.
The MA in Gender, Culture and Development Studies seeks to build upon undergraduate specialization and offer the students more viable & wider career options. It has been planned in ways that will encourage students to think critically, develop reading, comprehension, argumentation skills through bridge courses and modular workshops.
There is also an option of doing just one year and earning a Diploma in Gender, Culture and Development Studies. This is especially useful for working professionals ,students who are looking for a meaningful stop-gap arrangement before they either go abroad for a Masters course or start working.
The training in the MA course in Gender, Culture and Development Studies seeks to integrate theoretical rigour with practical experience (fieldwork and internship) and skill-building (through various bridge courses and workshops) in the student to pursue a rewarding career in many fields.
The new MA Course in Gender, Culture and Development Studies is a part of the Centre’s commitment to reinventing higher education to address the challenges posed by ‘employability’ and changing social composition in higher education.
