Postdoctoral Research Fellowship for experimental work on nanoconfined crystal growth and dissolution
A 2 year postdoc position for experimental work on nanoconfined crystal growth and dissolution is open at the The Department of Physics, University of Oslo.
Project description:
Water or other fluids are often trapped in nanometer thin films between crystal grains of polycrystalline materials. This nanoconfined fluid film mediates forces between the grains and crystallization and dissolution of the grains. These effects and the very stability of the nanoconfined fluid film are fundamental to the strength, damage and healing of many polycrystalline materials. We have recently shown fundamental discrepancy between our experiments and existing theory for these processes. The postdoc will be part of a team of experimentalists and modellers working to solve the enigma.
The "Flow and interface laboratory" of the Condensed matter physics section of the Physics department of the University of Oslo has 10 well equipped labs with ample funding for their research on interface processes, deformation and fluid flow in porous media. There are currently 5 PhD students, 6 postdocs/researchers, 2 engineers and 2 professors working at the laboratory. The experimental research is closely tied to numerical simulations and theory and in total the section has about 30 PhD/postdocs and 7 professors.
