POSTDOC IN SOIL CHEMISTRY
Soil and Environment
A position as Post-doc in soil chemistry is available within the faculty of Natural Resources and Agricultural Sciences at the Department of Soil and Environment, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala. The Department is housed in the Soil-Water-Environment Centre and conducts research, environmental monitoring and education for sustainable land use. Soil chemistry is a central topic for the department with many active employees.
Duties: Conduct research in soil chemistry, with emphasis on the geochemistry of metals in soils and waters. Topics of interest include new knowledge on the coordination of metals to environmental interfaces (e.g. soil particle surfaces, organic matter), and ways in which new knowledge on mechanisms can be integrated in models for transport and uptake of metal contaminants in the environment. Tasks include lab and field work, spectroscopic characterization and geochemical modelling. The position will be linked to other ongoing projects that focus on, for example, metals in contaminated areas, but there are also opportunities for own research.
Qualifications: The applicant should hold a PhD in soil chemistry, aquatic geochemistry or equivalent, and be experienced in the use of synchrotron X-ray methods and preferably also geochemical modelling. You should have previous experience of field work and of work on a chemical laboratory. A well-developed network within the research area is a merit. The PhD degree should not be more than 3 years old at the time of application.
