Politics and masses of Manipur
RL Pavei *
Our present politics imparts only the rich. Such politics has produced a vast population but unable to distinguish what is worth.
Obviously politics is not just winning the election, take a name, got status and settle down, but to look at the sky, to understand the people who are living beside you, so that we can come to know the realities of a human life.
All this fact shapes our conduct. Our conduct emanates our character which leaves indelible imprints of our being in the minds of people around us. But in the case of Manipur I wonder if this is a state runs by government or kind of game performing in the circus? As poor mass we have had shared enough, on common destiny of corrupt government and undergrounds.
For many years till date many politicians are far engage on their day dream forgetting, this is a land of mankind, a home of poor, illiterate and helpless. They only wake up only when the times of election approaches.
Why are Manipur so helpless when rest of North-East states could hold their head on high and shine? Why the masses of Manipur still remain stagnant? Indeed histories talks far better then where we are today. We have had enough resource, manpower and share an international border (which would be beneficiaries for carrying out the trade) but still why can't we? With the seeds of politics brought in to light, our society was parted into two unequal circles.
In the view of Marx economics term: he considers the have's class as the bourgeoisie (who are the wealthy minority, where the means of production are in their hands). And have not's as proletariat (who are the poorer majority, where they don't have a means of production).
But in our society it is justify as the politically majority party of major beneficiaries' to fewer (minor groups) and non beneficiaries' as commoners (major groups).
Politics which is the currently dominant form of economic management, in our society leads to the oppression of the masses. They not only make up the majority in forming the government through commoner' votes but also spend their life doing a lip service.
Today man does not care what's happening to his neighbor so long as he is perfectly safe. He is running amuck after money leaving his good conduct far behind, forgetting only good conduct would make him the richest 'being' on earth. How long can this be last? To quote Karl Marx, Grundrisse, 1858 "Society does not consist of individuals, but expresses the sum of interrelations, the relations within which these individuals stand."
But our political leaders are too blind to keep their eye on it where the force that bind each individual are been carelessly untie without their head in it. We have enough evidence what had happen in China, former USSR etc. Almost every aspect of their conflicts, split and war were question of ownership, fighting for equal political, economic and social status.
Nevertheless the mass of Manipur, no long we will remain still on the side of corrupt politician. The next war will be not of land disputes and tribalism but civil war, the out cry between the government and the masses. Beginning was sour and so with the end. This generation, young men and women will not remain silent; they have had enough ideas and actuality of what's going on in Libya, Egypt, and Bahrain etc. Their war is progressing and so as ours is nearing.
We don't want the younger generation to buy employment but rather employment for rightful and qualified person. Let us wait and watch carefully on how O. Ibobi stands on his promise committed before the mass of Manipur on the recent held teachers recruitment programmed.
Will his delivery on the newspaper be just a word or a drastic step to historic change of future Manipur? Or this is just another game added for the up coming election? This is Manipur our state, our land no more Meiteis, Nagas and Kukies. We have had enough wars and hatred.
Now it is time for justice to prevail in our land. The urban or rural people we want equal share, equal rights and freedom. We don't want you to instruct us on what is justice, what is sedition? We want to be what we are. We don't need your job if it is for sale, we don't need your force if it is not for security reason.
God has given us enough strength to feed our self without your dog-eat-dog money. We are going to fight a good war if changes are not revealed in our society. Remember on that day, to those who support it and those of us who refuse will forget the differences; we all will fall on the same track and fight for one goal i.e. society bound by unity and free of corruption.
It is high time for us citizen to take a serious look on to this aspirant. Gandhi is one man but he could put the whole nation under his shade. As a mass if we co-operate with each other at one point or other we could stabilize the situation and turn this society to a place where the whole world admires.
To quote Swett Marden. 'The finding of the larger possibilities of man, the unused part, and the undiscovered part is the function of the New Philosophy. It may be covered under all sorts of debris' doubt, lack of self confidence, timidity, fear, worry, uncertainty, anxiety, hatred, jealousy, revenge, envy, selfishness. These may all be neutralized by right thinking.'
He believed that our thoughts influence our lives and our life circumstances. With a complete thought in our mind we all should elect a true leader, who is guided by great feelings of love: love of humanity, of justice and truth. 'Our history will be what we make. If we go on unanswered, history will take revenge'.
We all must live in conscious state with the ever changing environment of the society. Our society needs a drastic and prolongs change. Fictitious words and prolific talks alone will not help form a better society without a sole response from the heart.
