DTU Nanotech - The Department for Micro- and Nanotechnology is a research institute at the Technical University of Denmark. DTU Nanotech represents a cross-disciplinary research environment where micro- and nanotechnology are applied to a wide range of scientific disciplines, e.g. mechanics, optics, chemistry, medical technologies, and biotechnology.
Responsibilities and tasks
The intended PhD student will be a member of the Bioanalytics group at DTU Nanotech. The objective of the PhD project is to explore different designs and types of 3D carbon scaffolds for potential cell replacement therapy relevant for neural stem cell science. More specifically, the goal is to investigate the influence of the carbon material and scaffold designs on stem cell differentiation processes and the underlying phenomena involved, using various physical and bioanalytical characterisation techniques. The start date of the position is September 1st 2014 and the length of the position is 3 years.
Qualifications
We seek a candidate with a master’s degree in analytical chemistry or similar. Relevant qualifications include general experience with different bioanalytical techniques, preferably bioelectrochemistry, molecular biological techniques and/or MALDI MS. An important qualification is willingness and ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team.
Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the DTU PhD Guide.
