Pawan Hans is a whirly bird disaster
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: May 05 2011 -
PAWAN HANS Helicopters Limited (PHHL) is a helicopter service company based in India. It is a government owned enterprise with 78.5% in government hands and 21.5% with ONGC.
It was incorporated in 1985 and has since steadfastly built an image of distrust and fear, fortifying their shortcomings with multiple crashes.
If you have not been on a Pawan Hans helicopter ride thank your discretion or your lack of knowledge, not necessarily in that order.
Just between us, if you promise not to tell anyone else, Pawan Hans helicopters are flying coffins.
In the Northeast it is a 50-50 chance that you beat the Pawan Hans helicopter or it beats you.
The helicopter service could well cost your mind and money. But topographical challenges have underlined the past and Pawan Hans deserves a certificate of spreading unadulterated fear.
If you do not believe this process of persuasion, best of luck to you. Dorjee Khandu, CM of Arunachal Pradesh chose to fly on a Pawan Hans chopper. One learns his wife and child have identified his dead body. One hopes they have decided never to fly on a Pawan Hans chopper for any reason whatsoever.
But what actually is the Pawan Hans story.
It is a story of cheap machinery and ill trained and inept handling of difficult situations.
You could give a hoot and a holler, but India which aspires universal dominance is still burdened by self inflicted cheap choices.
Meanwhile stay clear of Pawan Hans by at least 1 km. We can keep trading knowledge on such foolery.
In our context let us be careful when we think of operating helicopter services within Manipur.
Pawan Hans could well have the last laugh. We are less prepared than Pawan Hans when it comes to understanding technical shortcomings.
In the name of ushering in development let us not commit suicide.
