TODAY -
Passing over
K. Padmakumar *
Many river jetties unknown to me,
Passing through many places known to me
I drift across your endless flow
O time! Your name is this day and the day after.
The wood before me lies expanded
Beautiful, dark and unending.
What lies beyond the wood –
Will I fall in a dark cave?
Or on a vast expanse of light?
(Translated from my father's Manipuri poem "Matam" by K Radhakumar.)
