Parties spar over crisis
The Telegraph | Umanand Jaiswal | Guwahati, Jan. 5:
A day after the two-phase Assembly polls in Manipur were announced, the Congress and the BJP sparred in Guwahati over the crippling economic blockade, signalling their intent to flag the crisis as a key poll plank.
"The Centre tried its best to impose President's rule but the Election Commission took the right decision by announcing the polls. Everybody knows who is behind the economic blockade and they will have to face the consequences . Rest assured, we will win in Manipur for the fourth straight time," AICC secretary in-charge of the Northeast, C.P. Joshi, said.
The convener of the North-East Democratic Alliance (Neda) and Assam cabinet minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, hit back, blaming the blockade on the "wrong policies" of the Ibobi Singh government.
