Parleys start for poll ties
The Telegraph | Imphal, Dec. 25:
A day after announcement of the January 28 date for Manipur Assembly elections, Opposition parties here have started hectic parleys to form pre-poll alliances to give the ruling Congress a run for its money.
Okram Ibobi Singh’s second consecutive term would end in March and the Congress here is hopeful of achieving a hattrick in the upcoming election.
The Election Commission yesterday announced the dates for single-phase polling in the state and the entire election process would be completed on March 9.
Congress leaders gathered at the party office here today to observe the party’s Dal Day and after the programme, leaders, including PCC president Gaikhangam, went to their respective constituencies to celebrate Christmas as well as meet workers in view of the hectic schedule ahead.
