'Save Loktak, our life' music campaign kicks off

'Save Loktak, our life' music campaign kicked off at Imphal with a roadshow on 8th April 2009. The roadshow comprising of about 60 youths in bikes and cars was flagged off by A. Mema Devi & Ranbir Thouna after distributing the campaign T shirts. It is to be noted that the campaign is launched by Tamna Sanggai under the leadership of Ranbir Thouna, one of the top music composer/singer of Manipur. The enthusiastic roadshow participants drive around town distributing pamphlets and playing loud speakers creating awareness to the public about the significance of our dying lake Loktak.
On the 9th April, a press conference was held at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre where environment experts Dr. Shamughou, Nandiram Sharma, Tamna Sanggai public relation executive Purujit Lairikyengbam and Ranbir Thouna talk to the media in detail about the campaign and the factual conditions of the dying lake. A booklet tilted Loktak-Manipur's dying lake, an audio Cd and Dvd set and campaign T shirts was officially launched.

While the CD comprise of 4 tracks on the theme Loktak composed by Ranbir Thouna, the Dvd contains a music video conceived and directed by Oinam Doren, one of the rising filmmaker of alternative cinema. The music video will be telecast on local cable networks, Doordarshan, international environment television channels and internet video.
International theatre icon Padmanshree Ratan Thiyam, Padmashree writer (Her royal highness) MK Binodini, national award winning filmmaker A.Shyam Sharma has lauded the efforts put up by the young generation.

On the 10th April, a music concert would be held again at BOAT with video installations on the theme 'Loktak'. The concert would be telecast worldwide on the internet by www.siroy.info .
'Save Loktak, our life' music campaign is presented by Airtel and co-sponsored by Bsnl, Narayan Advertising, Bell ad, Pahen Printers, E-pao.net and www.siroy.info.
