YOUR TWO MINUTES CAN CHANGE THE FUTURE OF MANIPUR
Time and again Economic Blockade cripples Manipur leading to widespread shortages of essential commodities in various part of Manipur. The state is facing its worst crisis of food, fuel and medicines shortage due to a prolonged economic blockade which began on April 11 by various groups, first the two highways connecting Manipur to the rest of India were blocked in protest against the state government’s decision to hold Autonomous District Council elections in Naga-inhabited area.
The situation worsened since May 6 due to subsequent blockade on the two highways by various groups over the Manipur government’s refusal to allow Naga separatist leader to visit his native Somdal village in Ukhrul district.
Hundreds of trucks carrying essentials and medicines were stranded in the adjoining state of Nagaland with protestors laying siege on both National Highway 39 and 53.
Fuel continues to be the most scarce commodity with a litre of petrol selling as high as Rs 220, while a cooking gas cylinder was sold at anything between Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,700. Several hospitals have stopped routine surgeries due to a dearth of oxygen cylinders. Such is the plight of our state.
We the people of Manipur are deeply pained by such political tensions that created unrest among communities and directly affecting the communal harmony of Manipur. We intend to present our views to higher authorities for effective solution and also send the result of our opinions to all media houses to create maximum awareness of the issue.
Have your say! to bring about your change in Manipur.
