PM should realize I am struggling for people: Irom
Times of India | TNN | Nov 4, 2011, 08.25AM IST
Irom Sharmila Chanu, who completes her 11th year of fast against the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act on Saturday, urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take into account her struggle for the cause of the people.
The Iron Lady of Manipur expressed her view when former vice chancellor of Aligarh University, M Rahman, met her on Thursday afternoon at the security ward of the state-run Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences close to her Promopat residence in Imphal East.
"There is no place for this draconian act in this democratic country and I'm struggling for the past 10 years to have it removed. Union leaders, especially the prime minister, should realize that I am struggling for the cause of the people," Sharmila said.
