PANE Programme in PANDU College on 26th October 2019
Physics Academy of North East (PANE), in association with the Department of Physics, PANDU College organized a lecture on Saturday, 26th October 2019 in PANDU College. Prof Amarendra Kumar Sarma of IIT Guwahati delivered the lecture on this occasion on an important topic in non-linear optics ‘’ Optical Soliton: A Jewel of Nonlinear Optics’’.
In the lecture, the speaker introduced the concept of solitons in the context of nonlinear optics, and its applications in modern physics and technology. He gave a brief introduction to nonlinear optics, starting at an elementary level.
He discussed the theory of non-linear waves on water and lastly going on to the existence and description of solitons with the help of interesting videos. The speaker discussed current state of affairs in soliton research and his current research activities in the area. The session was chaired by Dr. P.K.Dhar, Publicity Secretary of PANE.

Earlier Dr Jogesh Kakati, Principal of the College inaugurated the programme. While mentioning Physics as a tool to reveal the unknown mysteries of Nature, he urged PANE to develop efforts to provide students a sound technical know-how about various topics so that they can come up with flying colours in this competitive world. . Mrs Pranita Das, faculty member of the Physics Department of the College gave the welcome address .
Prof Bipul Bhuyan, General Secretary, PANE said in his inaugural address that such lecture programme is an attempt to make the students aware of the latest developments in physics education and research so that they can project themselves appropriately in the national and international platform.
He narrated how PANE has been spreading its wings all across the North East with its activities in an accelerated manner to rope in interested students who have dormant ambitions to position themselves in the global collaborative scientific map.
Prof Dilip Choudhury. the former Executive President of PANE inaugurated the 2019 edition of the Departmental magazine ‘Spectrum’’.
The vast audience comprised of PANE Life-members, dignitaries, Faculty Members and research scholars of various institutions. There was and intense interaction at the end of the talk between the speakers and the audience.
The vote of thanks was given by Dr. Bhaskar Jyoti Hazarika, faculty member of the Department of Physics of PANDU College who was the co-ordinator of the programme.
