Outfit sets terms for talks
- 'Zeliangrong people across NE should be united'
The Telegraph | Imphal, April 5:
The militant outfit, Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF), has said it is ready to hold talks with the Centre provided it recognises the demand for bringing together the Zeliangrong community.
"The Zeliangrong United Front is ready for talks with the government of India provided it recognises the demand for bringing together the Zeliangrong community scattered across the northeastern states under a single administrative unit," Jenchui Kamei, the new chairman of the outfit, told reporters at a hideout on Monday.
The outfit mainly operates in Tamenglong district and security forces reckon it as a force. Intelligence sources said it has more than 300 well-trained and armed cadres. The group came into existence in 2011 with the objective of "protecting and safeguarding the interest, land and resources of the Zeliangrong community".
