On reaching another milestone
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: September 21, 2012 -
The 16th American President Abraham Lincoln, who brought about emancipation of the slaves, once said, "...in the end, it's not the years in your life that counts. It is the life in your years.'
Indeed, in the timeline of journalism in Manipur, four years may be just a tiny speck, too short and insignificant even to be counted.
But within this short period, the English edition of Hueiyen Lanpao has not only been able to carve out a niche for itself as a daily to be reckoned with in the service of disseminating information and moulding public opinions, but also won the trust and confidence of the reading public.
This is not only to the credit of a dedicated team of young professionals at Hueiyen Lanpao, who put in their best effort towards making the English edition of Hueiyen Lanpao to stand out from the rest, but also because of the unstinted support and love of our esteemed readers and patrons, who give us their valuable feedbacks from time to time.
Without their support and feedbacks, we would not have been able to come so far in just a span of four years.
Though Hueiyen Lanpao as a daily in local vernacular (Manipuri in Bengali script) has been in circulation since 1978, the first English edition of Hueiyen Lanpao hits the newsstands along with its cousin Meetei Mayek edition on this day of September 21 in 2008, thus, giving more scope for projecting the sentiments of the people and putting across their opinions and views on important issues of the state.
It also fulfills one of the cherished dreams of the reading public in Manipur to see and have a newspaper printed in their own native scripts.
Today, Hueiyen Lanpao Group of Publcations is the only media house in the whole North eastern region to bring out three dailies successfully.
This is a testimony to the fact that the three Hueiyen Lanpao editions have been able to live up to their motto "The Messenger of the Masses' and captured the hearts and minds of the people.
As both the English and the Meetei Mayek edition of Hueiyen Lanpao celebrate 4th anniversary today and look forward to stepping into the fifth year, we would also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our regular contributors and columnists without whose backing, the journey so far would not have been so much enriching.
The woods are lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.
