On booking under racial discrimination against people from NE under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act
New Delhi, 4 June 2012:
North East Support Centre and Helpline welcome the decision made by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to book the racial discrimination against people from North East India under Scheduled Caste and Tribes Prevention of Attrocities Act.
The MHA has served notice to all states and Union Territories to follow the instruction. This move has been long demand by NE Helpline and it is a milestone move.
The offenders of racial attack and discrimination could be imprisioned upto five years with non-bailable and police who failed to act could be imprisioned upto one year.
The NE Helpline believes that if law enforcing agencies follow this order, the racial discrimination could reduced and controlled.
The North East Support Centre and Helpline will follow how the law enforcing agencies follow this order.
