On a Balmy Spring Evening
- Deep from the Soul -
K. Radhakumar *
The evening sunshine with no pretensions to love
Kiss the exposed hillside.
Their stoic acceptance of the nightfall –
Oh yes, how is it?
A calming influence on me!
A welcome change!
A bird is gliding high up,
Just letting nature takes its own course,
Its wings not flapping,
Completely at ease with the infinite spread of the sky –
Life certainly has grown mellower
And I have the orgasmic pleasure of seeing
Sweetness and light growing in abundance on the hillside.
My country, my home!
There is nothing unnatural about Nature.
Here stands one complete entity
And it appears
The beauty of creation lies in keeping
The beginning and the end knotted in mystery.
Memories make the old man talkative
But nobody cares to listen,
(Longevity is a curse)
And therefore, he cries,
'Gentlemen, lend me your ears.'
Ultimately, he talks to himself
In a loud voice
(May be his hearing is poor).
This second childishness of the old man
Is amusing to children.
At the ripe old age
One is one's only true friend.
Future.
What?
Can you say that again?
Aye, future.
What an idea!
A long day's work is done
And the time has come
For a good night's sleep.
There is much sense
In having a comfortable sleep
Than having nightmares about waking dreams.
