Of AFSPA and Common Man
Rajendra Kshetri *
I am a free citizen
Of a free Country
So says the Constitution.
At certain point of history
Came along AFSPA
And freezed my world of freedom.
It gagged my mouth
It chained my feet
It handcuffed my hands.
I saw but could not see
I heard but could not hear
I listened but could not talk.
I spoke but could not speak
I thought but could not think
I criticised but could not critique.
I went but could not wander
I travelled but could not track
I hiked but could not hitch-hike.
I am a free citizen
Of a free Country
So says the Constitution.
