It was not
A meeting of minds;
We were of the same tribe
Speaking the same tongue
But couldn't communicate with each other
And the meeting ended inconclusively.
Items high on the agenda
Were deferred for the next meeting.
Yes,
We were of the same tribe
Speaking the same tongue
And couldn't communicate with each other.
There's no doubt about it.
'X' was afraid
If he proposed his girlfriend might refuse.
He felt restless and unsettled
And said to himself,
'What if she refuses?'
His weakness is
Love is
'What if she refuses?'
I say
Don't you ask me to play God
And defer death
To an opportune moment
Or defer it sine die.
The dawn chorus was far sweeter
Than the awful din
Produced in this great meeting hall.
This great meeting hall!
This great meeting hall of ours
Was full of sounds
Obscene and shocking.
Here was a total breakdown
In communication; here was
No communication no relationship.
Here was a husband
Who called his wife, 'My Cleopatra'
And the fair-skinned wife smiled at
Her husband of a philosopher.
The meeting decided to blame
The Chairman in absentia.
(Not the one who was in the chair today)
But I'll say
Thank you, Mr Chairman
For I am suitably repentant of death
Since I have not appreciated life.
