In search of an Inclusive Indian Philosophy in the context of Regional Aspirations
Venue: Manipur University Campus, Imphal: 795003
(21-23 March 2020)
The Department of Philosophy, Manipur University, Canchipur, Imphal-795003 is organising an academic programme relating to North East India Philosophy Teachers' Meet cum National Seminar on "In Search of an Inclusive India Philosophy in the Context of Regional Aspirations" .
The programme seeks to revisit the challenges and opportunities which the people of the North East India who are now standing at a historically unprecedented crucial cross-road of national and international demands (Indias political economic phenomenon of Act East Policy as a response to the forces of globalisation). Since, already situated at a geopolitically strategic zone the people of the North East India have come face to face with a new encounter which may need multipronged adaptive response.
The ensuing academic programme is a humble initiative to find a way as to how all the stakeholders of the country, especially the citizens of the North East come on a common platform of dialogue and arrive at a solution to the problems to be faced while seeking the fulfillment of their Regional Aspirations.
The main focus of this academic event is on finding a respectable and existentially fulfilling space of the complex and multidimensional perspectives (culture, religion, economy and politics) of the proposed "Regional Aspirations" in respect of the citizens of the North East India within the overall national and international requirements.
While acknowledging the political economic issue of more than seven decades of deprivations caused by the prolonged phenomenon of economic winter being suffered by the people of the region, through a concerted dialogue, as a necessary first step this programme endeavours to remove the alleged sense of mutual otherness between the mainland citizens and their North East counterparts on the social, cultural, racial and religio-philosophical planes, and more seriously the prolonged sense of alienation that, the latter citizens have been experiencing.
The aforesaid academic event is an attempt to find a respectable space for the indigenous beliefs and values etc within the expandable scope of the Indian philosophical traditions so as to make them inclusive and accommodative.
The organising committee is of the strong belief that, India as an emerging global power stands in the need of an internally strong pan-diversity national identity on the cultural and spiritual planes (Parth Chatterjees Omnibus talks about an internal and external structure of a country) only wherein, the causal condition for the practical fulfillment (economic and political aspects) of the Regional Aspirations of the ethnic people of North East may lie.
Therefore, all the interested academic stakeholders cutting across the disciplinary boundary belonging to the Humanities and Social Sciences are requested kindly to participate by way of presenting papers, offering suggestions, comments, constructive criticisms and views relating to the regions cultural, spiritual and political economic aspirations.
