No longer does the Nightingale chant
K. Radhakumar *
Past is memory.
Future is hope.
Today is four.
Four?
Yes, four.
What do you mean?
Today is Friday.
I do not feel good today.
My neighbor dies
In a car accident.
He dies on the spot.
He leaves a wife
And two children.
I congratulated him the other day
On his promotion to UDC.
We planned to celebrate.
The song was brief – it died down
And no more would it be heard.
The mournful eyes of his wife
And the two school going children!
Ah, life seems to have lost all meaning.
So unexpected. So sudden.
It seems the whole house
Still sends back echoes of his footsteps.
It's Sunday the day after tomorrow, isn't it?
I am hoping for good weather on Sunday.
Sunday wakes to a clear morning.
So I should hope.
