No Hand of God in politics of hate : Co-incidence or more ?
- The Sangai Express Editorial :: October 15, 2012 -
Co-incidence is a small miracle where God prefers to remain anonymous.
But is there a hand of God in the co-incidence of the Joint Legislature Forum of Nagaland Legislative Assembly deciding to proceed to Delhi close on the heels of Union Home Minister Shushil Kumar Shinde summoning the Chief Ministers of Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh to Delhi to inform them that the Naga issue would be resolved before the next Assembly election in Nagaland sometime next year ?
On the other hand, there is certainly can the stand raised by the All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation in the face of the recent developments fall in the realm of co-incidence ?
Certainly not.
A solution is no solution if it creates another problem of wide ranging ramifications.
This is the thumb rule and the political engagement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) cannot escape this reality.
It remains to be seen what form or political arrangement will accrue from the political dialogue which has been dragging on for one a half decade but there is no denying the fact that this has spawned a number of issues, which have been tearing at the social and political fabric of Manipur.
The hand of God cannot be read into the issues which rest on the premises of the politics of hate, politics of divide and politics of economic blockades.
This is what should be acknowledged by all those who stand on either side of the Lim divide.
Whether Chief Minister O Ibobi will respond to the stand adopted by AMUCO or not is a different matter, but an important point has been raised and that is to keep the people informed of what is going on or at least that the State Government come clean on what has been informed by the Union Home Ministry.
From standing against the 'colonial power' that is India, the NSCN (IM) has been successful to a certain extent in changing the profile of their target-Manipur and her people and all that the place stands for.
In the process they have also succeeded in grooming a certain class of people who have left no stone unturned to spread an agenda, an agenda which amounts to identifying the very idea of Manipur as its nemesis.
A near perfect political plot to make certain groups of people the 'victimised' lot by the entity known as Manipur.
The question is whether the social and political reality in Manipur made it all that easier to let such propagandist approach stick.
This is important and should be sought to be answered by all those who believe and stand by a Manipur, intact.
Political leaders, social leaders, the civil society organisations and all those who have taken a vocal stand over the issue should pool their minds together and study this crucial question.
Sincerely and honestly at that. There is a reason why New Delhi is keeping so many crucial points under the lid.
Classified information ? This sounds like a poor joke.
Or has Delhi accorded the status of a foreing entity on the NSCN (IM) that its engagement with the group should be veiled under a cloud of secrecy and discreteness ?
The bottomline is, it would not acceptable if the destiny of a people is to be decided by not taking them into confidence.
That Manipur has a stake in the talk is irrefutable. It is also irrefutable that the people of Manipur have not been taken into confidence so far.
This is what is unacceptable.
