Dr. Nirmala Chongtham Key note lecture at World Bamboo Congress at Mexico

World bamboo Ambassador Dr. Nirmala Chongtham, Professor in Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh has been invited to give a keynote lecture in the World Bamboo Congress to be held in Mexico from 14-18 August, 2018.
The title of the talk is “The Healing touch of Bamboo” where she will be discussing about the traditional knowledge of healing effects of bamboo which has been prevalent in Asian culture since centuries followed by scientific studies regarding the health benefits of bamboo shoots.
She will be soon releasing a book “Bamboo shoots as a Health Food” which has been funded by Ned Jaquith Foundation and American Bamboo Society (USA).
Under her stewardship as Coordinator of the National Team, the 3rd World Bamboo Workshop is going to be organized at Imphal from 4-8 February, 2019 in collaboration with World Bamboo Organization, USA and DICMA Trade from Mexico.
Participants from more than 20 countries are expected. The workshop is a lecture cum hands on training event and will be very beneficial for the North east and in particular Manipur as it is a platform to showcase our bamboo tradition and also an exposure to the state of art in bamboo worldwide.
The official website of the Workshop will be launched in 14 August, 2018 during the World Bamboo Congress.

The Chief Minister of Manipur Shri N. Biren Singh has assured full support from the government and all efforts will be made to make it a very successful event.
