Despite drizzles, Ningol Chakkouba, a major festival of Meiteis in Manipur during which married sisters and daughters are invited to grand feasts, was celebrated across the State with gaiety on Saturday. It is celebrated on the second day of the Lunar month of Hiyanggei (October-November). Ningol means the daughter of a family and Chakkouba stands for feast in Manipuri language. On this day, married sisters and daughters go to their paternal homes for a sumptuous lunch and receive gifts from their parents and brothers to renew and strengthen family bonds.
