Ngayaising Jagoi : The First Tangkhul to conquer Mount Everest
Ngayaising Jagoi, 28 years old born to Vaomi and Elisha Jagoi of Phalee village, Ukhrul Disstrict, Manipur ranked 23rd in HSLC Exam in 2005 from Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Ukhrul.
He stood 12th rank in COHSEM 2007 (Class XII). He went on to clear IIT JEE in 2008, and graduated with BTech in Petroleum Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.
He has been posted as an Assistant Executive Engineer (Production), ONGC at Agartala since 2013. He is an active social worker and is one of the founding members of Tangkhul Techies Consulto, a first of its kind that has been providing free career counsellings, educational camps and free medical camps to his community. He is the first Naga to graduate directly from ISM.
On 27 May 2017, he has added another rare feat in his long list of acheivements. He became the first Tangkhul to conquer Mount Everest at 0745 hours. This rare feat has brought smiles and praises from every corner of Tangkhul community.
"We are thrilled to announce that 3 ONGC employees-Yogendar Garbiyal, Ngayaising Jagoi & Rahul Jarngal, created history by summiting the Mount Everest (8848 m) today under the leadership of Padma Shri Loveraj Singh Dharamshaktu, Assistant Commandant, BSF representing Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) as per report from ONGC Limited".
With this feat, ONGC has become one of the first corporates in the world to successfully scale the Everest.
Yogendar and Loveraj summited the peak at 0610 hrs while Ngayaising Jagoi and Rahul achieved the feat at 0745 hrs today. All four members returned to South Col (Camp 4) at 1045 hrs and are in good health condition.

The 12-member ONGC expedition team was further divided into two sub-groups – Team 1 and Team 2. The four members are part of the Team 2. Team 1 will attempt summit push tonight.
The expedition was flagged-off by Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Hon’ble MoS (I/C), Petroleum & Natural gas on March 27, 2017. The team left for Nepal in the first week of April and have since then summited various peaks, including Lobuche East (6119 mtrs) and climbed till Everest Camp 3 as part of the acclimatization exercise.
Earlier, Team 1 attempted summit push on May 25th, but unfavourable weather conditions forced them to come down to Camp 2.
Meanwhile back in 2013, Manipur’s class XI student Nameirakpam Chingkheinganba becomes the youngest Indian to conquer Mt Everest as of now, according to Imphal based Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association(MMTA).
"Acknowledging their success, Manipur government announced to give Rs 10 lakhs each to the team leader of the recent expedition and five individuals including Chingkheinganba who scales the highest peak of the world. Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh chaired cabinet meeting has also taken a decision in this regard last evening" as published on 21 May 2013 at Hindustan Times.
