The "Veteran Scientist of Manipur-2018" sponsored by The Manipur Association for the Promotion of Science (MAPS), is awarded to Dr. Ng. Brajachand Singh, Former Professor of Biochemistry, RIMS, for his contribution on researches related to HIV and AIDS in Manipur.
The award ceremony will be held on January 1, 2018 at Court Hall of Manipur University at 11.00 a.m. MAPS cordially requests for your kind participation in the ceremony.

Dr. Ng. Brajachand Singh, MBBS, MD
Former Professor and Head of Microbiology Department, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Dean, School of Medical Sciences, Manipur University, Imphal.
The Manipur Association for the Promotion of Science, MAPS, is pleased to accord distinguished Felicitation of Veteran Scientist of Manipur – 2018 to Dr. Ng. Brajachand Singh, in due recognition of his contribution in the field of HIV detection, surveillance and monitoring the disease.
He organized to establish the Surveillance Centre of AIDS at RIMS ( September 1986) under ICMR in collaboration with State AIDS cell Government of Manipur for testing, counseling and surveillance of the injecting drug users of Manipur. This Centre detected the first case of HIV infection in Manipur state in October, 1986 around the same time when such cases were detected at other places of the world. The Centre trained medical and technical personnel to help them fight the disease.
Dr. Singh organized to establish NRL (National Reference Laboratory) one of the twelve such national laboratories in the country for mentoring and controlling the quality of testing HIV in Manipur and other North-Eastern State laboratories at RIMS under NACO (National AIDS Control Organization) in 2000.
Dr. Singh founded ICTC (Integrated Counseling and Testing Centres) division in the Microbiology Department, RIMS. A unit of FACS (Fluorescent Activated Cell Sorter) was set up in 2002 to test CD4 testing HIV positive individuals for undergoing ART (Anti-Retroviral Therapy).
Dengue Sentinel Surveillance Site (DSSS) was established in the Microbiology Department, RIMS, for the diagnosis of dengue by employing IgM capture ELISA test. Dr. Singh was responsible for providing HIV testing facilities to positive patients at Microbiology Department of RIMS free of cost.
Dr. Ng. Brajachand Singh born in 1951, is a medical graduate from B.S. Medical College, Bankura (W.B.), 1975 & MD in Microbiology from Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, 1980.
Dr. Singh was a Commonwealth Medical Fellow, St. Thomas Hospital, London, U.K. He was trained on Retro-viral diagnosis and immunephenoltyping at Bureau of Public Health Laboratories, Montgomery, Alabama, USA. He has published about 190 research papers.
