New Manipur governor - Najma Heptulla
The Telegraph | Guwahati, Aug. 17:
In Manipur, former Union minister Najma Heptulla was appointed as the governor replacing V. Shanmuganathan, who was holding additional charge.
Heptulla, 76, resigned last month as Union minority affairs minister. The Centre's decision to remove Shanmuganathan, at a time his remark on culture has stoked a controversy, was greeted with a sigh of relief from experts and scholars in the state.
Shanmuganathan had provoked gurus and scholars of Manipuri culture on Friday when he told them to define culture in 100 words and send it to him.
