Nagas have set up 140 villages in Assam: AASU
Times of India | TNN | Oct 14, 2011, 10.58AM IST
The All Assam Students Union (Aasu) on Thursday reacted to chief minister Tarun Gogoias Wednesday comment of Naga encroachment on Assam land at Merapani and said it was untrue and against the people of the state. Gogoi, in an interaction with mediapersons in Dispur on Wednesday, said there was no fresh encroachment on Assam territory at Merapani and no taxi stand was set up by the Nagas on state land.
"There can be nothing worse than this. We strongly protest this negligence of the chief minister and warn him to refrain from making such comments in the future," Tapan said, adding during Tarun Gogoias tenure as chief minister, the Nagas have set up 70 villages in Golaghat district. "The Nagas have already set up 140 villages, two towns and two subdivisions in Golaghat district. They have set up 70 villages in the four border sectors of Golaghat during the last ten years of Gogoias tenure," he said.
