Naga Senior citizens flay PM's statement; Ibobi asked to apologize
Nagaland Post | Dimapur, Dec 7 (NPN)
Concerned Naga senior citizens have expressed their disappointment over the recent statement of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made during his recent Imphal visit with UPA chief Sonia Gandhi. They have also asked the Manipur Chief Minister O.Ibobi Singh to apologize for saying that the “Nagas and Kukis are also Manipuris”.
A letter addressed to the Prime Minister said that the “assurance of protecting territorial integrity” at this stage was in “total contradiction” to the commitment the Prime Minister gave in the past wherein he promised to solve the Naga issue based on “unique history and situation” and “go the extra mile”. It said that Nagas believed that the “realistic steps” taken by the PM would lead to a final “negotiated political settlement” sooner or later.
The senior citizens considering the “retracting attitude on the part of GoI” and its stand to maintain the territorial integrity of Manipur, said that the “land occupied by the Nagas will ever remain undisputed”. Therefore, they asserted that the question of maintaining the territorial integrity of Manipur was “irrelevant” and should not stand on the way while “solving the protracted Naga problem”.
