NHRC to take up Irom Sharmila's complaint

Justice Cyriac Joseph responding to a question during a press conference here today, said that they have decided to take up a suo-moto case cognisance of her complaint for not being allowed visitors. “Even a criminal is allowed visitors, but she is not a criminal. We will follow up by sending a formal recommendation”, he added.
National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken a serious note of Manipur human rights defender Irom Chanu Sharmila’s complaint of visitors not being allowed to meet her in custody.
