NE theatre goes to Bangla
The Telegraph | Sekhar Datta | Agartala, Nov. 21:
Manipur's leading theatre personality Loithongbam Dorendra will stage a folk play, Morang Parva, at an indigenous drama festival organised by the Theatre Academy of Bangladesh in Dhaka on Monday. In fact, all the seven states of the Northeast have been invited to stage indigenous drama at the festival that began on Thursday and will continue till November 26.
Morang Parva, the dramatised version of a classical love story culled from the local legends of Moirang and on the landscape and water resources of Loktak lake, will be presented as open air folk theatre. Speaking to this correspondent here, en route to Dhaka, last night, Dorendra said, "Since this is an indigenous drama festival, we decided to stage it in open air as folk theatre." "It is essentially a love triangle set in folk theatre mode. It will be staged along with dance and music. The plot of the drama revolves around the lives of two orphaned siblings, Khamba and Khamnu, and the love story of Khamba with Moirang princess Thoibi," Dorendra said.
