NE: Decline in violence, truce pacts mark 2011
Assam Tribune | New Delhi, Dec 27
Decline in violence in the North-East and a record number of ceasefire pacts with insurgent outfits marked the year for the Home Ministry.
A year-ender released maintained that there has been significant decline in incidents of violent killings of civilians and security personnel in the NE States due to the consistent efforts of the Home Ministry. Dialogues with underground outfits have been held and Suspension of Operations (SoO) has also been signed.
The Memorandum of Settlement has been signed with the United People’s Democratic Solidarity (UPDS). The Suspension of Operations agreement with the Kuki National Organisation (KNO) and the United People’s Front (UPF) has been extended for a further period of one year beyond August 21, 2011.
