NEWAK strongly condemn the killing of Shaloni
Bangalore 24th July 2014
We members of the North East Welfare Association, Karnataka (NEWAK) in South India are outraged, appalled and anguished by the barbaric murder of Shaloni Akha, hailing from Senapati, district of Manipur on the fateful night of July 21 at Kotla Mubarakpur in New Delhi. Mr. Shaloni Akha has been working in a multinational company as customer executive in New Delhi. He was born on 1 March 1980 to Mrs. & Mr. Th. Akha of Tungjoy. He finished high school in 1995 from Bethany English School, Senapati and graduated in 2001 from Nagaland University. He also worked as a lecturer at Lao Radiant Hr. Sec. School in Vakho before joining the multinational company in New Delhi.
Our heartfelt condolences to the near and dear ones of the departed soul and we express our outrage at such an abhorrent ferocity committed in the heart of our capital city. The incident shows that the people of the northeast are reeling under constant threat. The northeasterners of Delhi are forced to live with, in their day to day lives aside the murders and killings, rape, molestation, eve-teasing, physical assault and racial verbal abuse.
In this regard, we also express our displeasure over the alleged “road rage” by Delhi Police and their lackadaisical duties towards the NE community. In contrast to the Delhi Police claiming as road rage, evidences collected clearly shows that it was a pre-planned to murder the innocent boy in cold blood, over a petty altercation. This incident shows that the people of the NE are reeling under constant threat coupled with racial agendas behind it.
Therefore, it’s our adamant demand to the government of India and concern judiciary department to take this case seriously and come up with a stringent law and stiff measures to provide safe and security to people hailing from NE states in major cities in the country. In such circumstances, we urge the central government that those murderers involved in the killing of Shaloni be given capital punishment to set an example and to dampen homicidal crime from further happening. Without which, ensuring a dire consequences to punished any such perpetrators we're afraid that this wouldn't be the last but a trigger for others to indulge in further crimes and get away with murder.
And also, taking into consideration the recommendation made by Bezbaruah Committee and its implementation at the interest of the NE people and for national integrity at large.
We also entrust our confidence in our government in power, and that justice is meted out at the earliest time. Otherwise failure on the part of government of India to bring justice at the earliest possible time will invite vigorous nation-wide demonstration, strike and various dharnas here in Bangalore as well.
