NDPP leadership congratulates Abu Metha for being selected by the Government of the United States

The NDPP leadership and all its members congratulates Mr. Abu Metha, Secretary General, for being selected by the Government of the United States to participate in a special exchange program on the subject “Regional Project for Asia Pacific, South & Central Asia” under the aegis of the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). The program and all its participants are fully funded by the US Government.
1) The IVLP which was first established in 1940 is one of the US Government’s most prestigious professional exchange programs for international opinion leaders. Prominent personalities from around the world have participated in the IVLP program including former Indian Prime Minister late Atal Behari Vajpayee. Since 1940, more that 320 current and former heads of Government and States and many distinguished international personalities have participated in the IVLP. The IVLP seeks to build mutual understanding between the United States and other nations through carefully designed professional visits to the US for current and emerging leaders.
2) This specially designed programme will be attended by leaders belonging to 12 Asia Pacific countries and the programme will give opportunities to the participants to examine the functions of state and local governments in planning, discuss US regulatory processes and the government’s role in ensuring a working infrastructure across state and local levels. The Program will also discuss matters related to activities in the region and the Indo-Pacific Strategy with the US Department of State Bureau of East Asia and Pacific Affairs, and South and Central Asian Affairs.
3) A panel discussion will also be arranged for visitors to meet with representatives of the CSIS Reconnecting Asia project office to address the topic of “Insights into the U.S. Perspective of the Indo-Pacific Region.” The CSIS headquartered in Washington, DC conducts research and analysis and develop policy initiatives that look at future predictions and anticipate change.
For over 50 years, the CSIS has worked to develop solutions to the world’s greatest policy challenges, and today, its scholars provide strategic insights and bipartisan policy solutions to help decision makers chart a course toward a better world. Panel discussions held will focus on US’ best practices and approaches. Different aspects of the program will be held across six cities of the United States.
Other aspects of the programme include a close study of planning, infrastructure development, community service activities, cultural activities and interactions with the National Park Service at the World War II Valor in the Pacific site at Pearl Harbour amongst several other events and meets.
4) While congratulating Mr. Abu Metha and being the only person selected from the region, believes that his selection is a significant opportunity for the State, the NDPP party wishes him all success and is hopeful that our State and its citizens will benefit in multidimensional manner now and in the long term.
