Move to import rice from Myanmar delayed
Assam Tribune | Imphal, Dec 8 –
The move to import rice from Myanmar has been delayed due to non-availability of necessary facilities and infrastructure in Manipur. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) is planning to import 10,000 MT of rice from Myanmar every month for a period of five months on a trial basis during the ‘mega block’ by the Railways owing to construction works in Assam.
“The plan to import rice from Myanmar will continue beyond the five months’ time if it is successful,” says Deputy General Manager Ksh Thoiba of FCI Imphal.
