Morning - a Haiku
K. Radhakumar *
O my lovely nights!
Dream your own sweet little dreams
For nightmarish dawns
Not you, not you
The moon that appears
Blooming and pretty
Amongst the pink lilies
Of the small pond in our backyard!
Oh, it is not the image of the ball
The watery autumn moon
Far, far away
In the blue waters of the night sky.
Your appealing sense of loneliness!
Loneliness makes one think
And thinking brings no happiness
But the memory of a brief love life
More dead than alive
Here the water dances in short twisting curves
Across the surface of the pond
To the rhythm of the gentle breeze
And the moon is not left behind.
Life is
Union of blood with blood
And heart with heart.
The lilies in the pond,
The swarm of buzzing bees,
The beautiful moon
Enjoying the cosiness of the watery heaven,
My wife
The most beautiful woman in the world!
Here are the harsh realities of life
More real that the reality,
If there be any.
At this moment in time
There is no gap between reality and appearance;
To me reality is a flying destination.
Today is my wife’s birthday;
I will go shopping.
I will see
She cannot conceal her surprise
At seeing her birthday present.
One thing is certain
I will not pick the moon from the sky.
