More Families Should Come Out : Data Collection Date Extended
Date : December , 2016
EEVFAM and HRA are happy to announce that the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, during it’s hearing on 7 September 2016 in the EEVFAM v/s UoI [WP(Cril) 129 of 2012] case, has extended the date of submission of the details of the victims till December 2016.
It may be noted that in the same case, the Judgment of 9 July 2016 clearly pronounced that all cases of excesses and retaliatory killing by the security forces should be probed. The court has asked the petitioners (EEVFAM and HRA) to submit full details of each of the 1528 cases.
More than 800 families of the victims of extrajudicial executions have already reported to the EEVFAM temporary office at AMBA building, Cheirap Court Complex, Imphal. We would like express our sincere gratitude to all the volunteers, district coordinators, the family members, the JACs, the clubs, the Meira Paibi and the civil societies organizations who have supported this processes. Without their support and hard work it would be impossible to carry out this historic and mammoth task.
However, we would also like to state that the work in not over. More than 700 families are yet to get in touch with the data collection process to record their statements and submit their documents. It would be a very unfortunate if some families are denied justice simply because they are unable to submit their cases details during the ongoing process.
We therefore humbly appeal to all concerns, particularly the families, the district coordinators, the JACs, the clubs, the Meira Paibi, the civil societies etc. to kindly help the remaining families, who have not yet been in touch with the ongoing data collection process, to kindly be in touch, record their statements and submit their documents as soon as possible.
Please help us in making the final push to bring the full and comprehensive picture of the human rights situation of Manipur before that Hon’ble Supreme Court so as to assist the Court in delivering justice to not only to the families whose loved ones were extra-judicially executed but also to make Manipur a livable place for the generations to come.
Thanking you in anticipation for your solidarity.
