Memoirs of Yaoshang
- Yet Another Trip Down Memory Lane -
Sanatombi Angomcha *
Come Lamtaa month embracing the essence of Yaoshang festival. The usual Saroi Khaangba Lamtaa Thaangjaas and those tantalizing cum nerve-sizzling child-like fears in our hearts about heloi-saroi-ngarois….hmmmm..sanaleibaak must be basking in the most flamboyant season of the year while I toss a melancholic feeling in my heart missing those old good days.
Yaoshang in Manipur is one of the best festivals I have ever been a part of. Interactive Yaoshang sports and entertainment activities in my Leikai make Yaoshang a fonder memory for me. Let me flaunt admitting this that I am proud to be a Wangkheilite. Being a Wangkheilite means so much to me.
I bet that my Leikai of all the leikais in Manipur is the most fun-loving Leikai. We celebrate every single festival with great pomp and show. It will never be a fallacious comment when I boast that people in Wangkhei know how to live life king/ queen size. (ahem ahem a boastful look )
When I was a child, I remember how the arrival of Yaoshang festival excited me and perturbed even my studies. Now when I look back upon all those years, I think I have so far missed a greater portion of happiness which I always deserved. And chances are I will keep missing them for at least…….an indefinite amount of time. Duh! (a confused facial expression)
But for this battle of existence that I have to continuously fight, I would not have missed much of all those festivals during all these years. I live without a choice at present and I am not able to assuremyself that I would not miss another ‘Yaoshang’, another festival
.....because I know that the odyssey has to sustain.......
Hmm, too much note of pessimism I suppose. … Well, well… those who would not be missing Yaoshang at home shall rejoice on behalf of me and many other exported Manipuris of my type.
Yaoshang is not just a festival of colors; it’s a festival about the triumph of good over evil and of happiness over sorrow. So, my dear Kangleichas its time for merry-making for you all (with a broad and bright smile :-)
Rejoice, Rejuvenate, Rewind Good times this Yaoshang and forever.
Happy Festival Of Colours!!! Cheers all!
