Meitei Students' Union (MSU) geared up for an all out protest
7th September 2014, New Delhi
Ref. No. MSU/PRC/PR-02/2014
Prices of essential items sore sky-high as the economic blockade commences for the fourth day in Manipur. The hand-to-mouth eaters are the most affected ones. Trucks carrying daily essential commodities are assaulted and left stranded in the state border. Petrol pumps have started rationing on a daily basis. In few years petrol will easily cross the margin of “liquid gold”.
Not to mention that the blockade has a huge impact on the economy of the state. In 2006-07, the economic blockade caused a loss of an estimated value of Rs.3.01 crores on a daily basis and it lasted for 77 days (11 weeks). Although the purported agenda is to teach the state government a lesson, the laymen are the only ones who are shedding the silent tears...
The Meitei Students’ Union (MSU) as a student body strongly condemns such an illegal act. On humanitarian grounds we stand for the people of the state.
We request the groups concerned to repeal the ongoing economic blockade within 24 hours or we will be compelled to go for an all-out protest. We also appeal to the state and the central government to take up the necessary actions to prevent such inhuman activities from ever happening again.
