Manipur registers a decline in incidence crime

Militancy may be on the wane but not crime. According to Crime in India, 2010, report of the National Crime Records Bureau, which was released on Thursday in India, Assam showed the third highest growth rate in incidence of total cognizable crimes in the country though it was ranked as the 15th most dangerous state to live in.
Among the northeastern states, the most troubled state in terms of militancy, Manipur, happened to be the only state to register a decline in incidence crime, 4.8 per cent in 2010. In 2009, the incidence of total cognizable crimes (IPC) in Manipur was 3051, which came down to 2715 the next year. Manipur is ranked the 29th is least dangerous state among all states and Union Territories.
Nagaland, like Manipur, has also showed a marginal decline in crime incidence from 1119 in 2009 to 1059 in 2010. Mizoram showed a growth of 6.2 in 2010 over 2009. Meghalaya showed a growth of 2.3 while Arunachal Pradesh showed a growth of 3.3 and Tripura 5.8.
