Manipur protesters torch wire drums
The Telegraph | Khelen Thokchom | Imphal, July 12:
Suspected inner-line permit (ILP) protesters have burnt electric wire drums worth more than Rs 1 crore during the past three days, causing serious damage to the Manipur State Power Corporation Ltd.
Officials of the corporation said protesters set on fire several drums of aerial bunched cable and underground cables kept on the roadside in various areas here for laying them underground and overhead.
Imphal has been on the boil since Wednesday after the death of a youth in police crackdown on students agitating in support of ILP. The death occurred while the Assembly was in session.
