Manipur newspaper vendors decide to suspend work today
Nagaland Post | Imphal, Jul 20
All Manipur Newspapers Sales’ and Distributors’ Association (AMNSDA) Sunday resolved to suspend distribution newspapers for a day on Monday to register a strong protest against arrest and torture of one of their colleagues by the security force
Thongbam Jiten (47), a resident of Kakwa Lamdaibung in Imphal East district, was nabbed by the troops of 40 Assam Rifles on Friday night and handed over to the police on the next day alleging him as a cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). The Assam Rifles further claimed to recover a 9mm pistol loaded with four live rounds.
Saying that Jiten is a member of the association and not related with any underground group, the Association decided to cease sale and distribution newspapers for the day on Monday.
