Manipur's infamous reaction to the capture of V Shekhar
- Hueiyen Lanpao Editorial :: July 21 2011 -
CNN-IBN on March 12, 2009 had reported on the notoriety of Verraya Shekhar also known as Moreh Shekhar. V Shekhar is an internationally known smuggler of red sandal wood and cocaine.
Though he has a temporary residence in Moreh, Manipur he generally operated his evil empire through a politically connected mafia in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi and Kolkata and Manipur.
In the past few years Indian police had been on his trail to capture him. Apart from being a smuggler he was a killer who took the lives of other people just because they differed in opinion.
Dacoit King KM Veerappan was his boss who taught him the tricks of the trade. In 2009 the smuggling racket they were operating was worth ' 10,000 crore.
Shekhar was finally arrested on July 14, 2011 by the Chattisgarh police at Chennai airport. He is being detained in an undisclosed place and will be produced in a court in Delhi. CNN-IBN reports say that he has close links with several top BJP leaders and his whereabouts are closely guarded.
As the rest of India celebrates the capture of this criminal, Manipur however has reacted in a most bizarre manner.
Tamil Sangam, an organization based in Moreh, and headed by V Shekhar has enforced a 48 hour bandh in Moreh alleging that the arrest of this criminal is motivated and that he is an innocent man.
How can a monster be innocent, only the Tamils can explain. On thing however is absolutely clear, Tamils can dictate terms in Moreh.
With all due respect and regard for those who profess that their love of Manipur far exceeds their own welfare, we ask, why are they silent when a bandh is being enforced in our territory by an alien body ?
Have they inadvertently swallowed a piece of alum ? What we honestly want to know is how many Manipuris are there in the payroll of V Shekhar and whether the list includes those who scare people with their excessive love of Manipur, as if implying we are not Manipuris enough.
For us Manipuris the real tragedy is that the Border Trade & Chamber of Commerce, Moreh and the Meetei Council Moreh has been engaged neck deep in enforcing the 48 hour bandh in Moreh.
Our normally virulent NGOs and civic bodies have now conveniently concealed themselves at this juncture when aliens are laying siege on our land.
Are they not required to explain why they have developed cold feet ?
How are they going to explain their stand to their children, our children ?
That they are paid underlings of a smuggler and a killer ?
Are they going to teach their children that A stands for arrest, B for burglary and C for crooks ?
We talk of lost freedom but honestly speaking have we surrendered it to smugglers, drug dealers and murderers ?
Through this simple write up we appeal to our most respected elders to please speak out against this siege of our land by brigands.
And also to the honourable Chief Minister to depopulate Moreh of evil men and give them a one way ticket to their original homes.
And let us all remember as a parting thought that V Shekhar was captured by Chattisgarh police in Chennai, not in Manipur, and that too for crimes committed against humanity.
