Manipur have the edge over Services
Nilesh Bhattacharya, TNN | May 26, 2011, 02.01am IST
If fortune favoured Services the other day, another F-factor is threatening to spoil their party in the Santosh Trophy. The fatigue of playing a match every alternate day since they kicked off their campaign in the preliminary clusters on May 12 could hamper them as they prepare for Thursday's semifinal against Manipur at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium.
Coach Jagmohan is aware of the tough task at hand. "We have a very punishing schedule here. Playing eight matches (including the semifinal) in 15 days cannot be an occasion to celebrate," the employee of Indian Air Force fumed on Wednesday.
Manipur coach S Ekendra Singh is a qualified AFC instructor and has picked most of his players from the state league. "I'm happy with the balance in the team and confident of reaching the final," he said.
Manipur start favourites to make the final for the first time since 2002, but Services will be ready to overcome their fatigue with sheer discipline and perseverance.
