Manipur govt in a bind over Sharmila

The Manipur government is likely to face a legal dilemma in handling rights crusader Irom Sharmila's case after the Centre decided to delete Section 309 of the IPC, which relates to attempt to commit suicide.
Officials of Manipur's law department could not immediately say what stand had been taken by the state government on withdrawal of the section. Legal experts said after Sharmila completes her jail term under Section 309 of the IPC and freed, the government would have to look for other IPC sections to re-arrest her.
