Manipur crisis: 104 days on, no respite
Times Now | 11 Nov 2011, 0909 hrs IST, Agencies
It has been over 100 days and there's no end to the economic blockade in Manipur. All fuel supplies have run out of stock leading to rampant black marketing of essential commodities in the state. A resident said, "What is the government doing? We don't understand."
With the two national highways serving as lifelines to the outside world blocked, the landlocked state is now on the edge. With acute shortages and prices sky rocketing, people are left at the mercy of black marketers.
Manipur was brought to a standstill due to a blockade by agitating Nagas, who are protesting against the formation of a separate Kuki dominated SADAR hills district.
Milan,Publicity Secretary of United Naga Council said, "Without consulting the Nagas, the land of the Nagas should not be touched. The govt must respect the traditional boundaries of Nagas."
However, what's baffling is the Centre's unwillingness to step in. and ease the situation in Manipur.
