Manipur accounted for 50% of NE violence in 2018: MHA report

Manipur was the most violent state in 2018, accounting for 50 per cent of the total incidents reported across the North East last year, when the number of insurgency and civilian deaths was recorded as being lowest in the past 14 years, as per a Union Home Ministry report.
In 2018, however, Manipur witnessed a decline in insurgency-related incidents by 24 per cent compared to 167 in 2017, and civilian deaths went down from 23 in 2017 to 8 in 2018. In 2018, counter insurgency operations led to the neutralisation of 10 militants, arrest of 404 militants and recovery of 99 weapons in Manipur.
